SCIENCE 7- GRADE 7
Science for 7th grade is an introduction to physical, space, earth, and life sciences. Problem solving skills will be stressed. These skills will include observing, classifying, sequencing, measuring, comparing and contrasting, finding cause and effect, recording data, and predicting. In your study of science, you will learn many interesting things about the natural world. Appropriate labs will be used in the science classroom.
SCIENCE 8 - GRADE 8
Science 8 is a required course for 8th grade students. Science 8 branches into Life Science. The study of life science during the school year includes: 1) matter and life, 2) life processes of cells, 3) classification of living things, 4) virus and bacteria, 5) fungi, 6) plants, 7) simple invertebrates, 8) complex invertebrates, 9) cold-blooded vertebrates, 10) warm-blooded vertebrates, 11) human organs and systems, 12) ecosystems, 13) biomes of the atmosphere, 14) humans and the biosphere. Laboratory sessions are included as each unit is covered. The school year is concluded with projects to present at the Science Fair in May.
PHYSICAL SCIENCE - GRADE 9
Physical Science is the study of matter, energy, and their relationship. The course emphasizes the everyday application of physical laws. The course introduces the student to the structure of matter and how its particular structure affects its relationship with other substances. It is designed to help the student to gain a systematic method of problem solving which they may use in any situation.
BIOLOGY I - GRADE 10
The Biology course consists of the study of life science. During this course, major areas covered are: 1) cell parts and functions, 2) the protista kingdom which consists of living organisms that have both plant and animal characteristics, 3) the plant kingdom that includes the simple algae groups to the dominating seed plants, 4) the animal kingdom from the sponges to the mammals, 5) the human body consisting of our body structures and functions of such structures, 6) the study of genetics which includes cell division and cell reproduction processes, and 7) human body diseases, consisting of how they attck the body and control of such diseses, 8) Homeostasis (diffusion and osmosis), 9) photosynthesis and respiration.
BIOLOGY II - GRADES 11-12
This Biology course involves the more advanced areas of life science not covered during sophomore Biology. The science areas studied in Biology II are : 1) Biomes and Communities, 2) Bioethics and the Environment, 3) Homeostasis and the Internal Environment, 4) Energy, ATP, 5) the cell and its cycle, 6) Inheritance, 7) Advances in Genetics, 8) Beginnings of Biology, 9) Zoology (taxonomy) of various specimens.
During this course, students are required to make some research work (critiques) and do project work consisting of study skins, taxidermy, etc. Students are required to take part in field studies of various ecological areas within the community.
PHYSICS - GRADES 11-12
Physics is the most basic of the sciences. It deals with the behavior and structure of matter. The field of physics is usually divided into the areas of motion, fluids, heat, sound, light, electricity and magnetism, and the modern topics of relativity, atomic structure, condensed-matter physics, nuclear physics, elementary particles, and astrophysics.
CHEMISTRY - GRADES 11-12
An elective for college bound juniors and seniors who wish to enter any medical, biological or chemical field of study. This will prepare students for basic college chemistry. Subjects covered are mole relationship, gas laws, and solutions with some acids and base reactions.
GENERAL SCIENCE - GRADES 11-12
A knowledge of science and its application is vital to each person's ability to function effectively in today's complex society. General Science provides coverage of chemistry, physical science, earth and space science, life science, and conservation topics. General Science emphasizes thinking skills, an appreciation of technology, an awareness of the interrelationships among the various scientific fields, and the practical application of scientific principles.
ANATOMY/PHYSIOLOGY - GRADES 11-12
This advanced science course deals with the study of the biological structures of living things (anatomy( as well as their living processes (physiology). Anatomy will examine the structures of skeletons, muscles, nerves, and organs and physiology will examine how those structures work together to achieve a particular function. Highly recommended for students interested in entering the health field.
ECOLOGY-GRADES 11-12
Ecology is the study of biological interactions: plant-plant, plant-animal, and animal-animal. Algebra is recommended as is taking the class during one's junior year of school. Students are expected to take part in all activities, including those held outdoors in the elements. Lab activities make up 75%+ of the grade.
